RALEIGH — Several downtown streets will be closed Saturday for the dedication of the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Memorial downtown at Nash Square.
Carl Regutti, a North Carolina artist, is the sculptor of the memorial, which honors firefighters who died on duty.
A parade begins at 9 a.m., followed by the dedication and memorial service at 2 p.m. and a candlelight service at 7 p.m.
The parade route from Hillsborough Street just west of downtown to Dawson Street to Nash Square will be closed to motorists from 7 a.m. to noon.
Parking spaces adjacent to Nash Square and one travel lane in the 200 blocks of South Dawson, West Martin and South McDowell streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Parking spaces in the 100 to 300 blocks of South Harrington Street will be blocked from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for parade units. The 200 block of West Hargett Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
