Measures to slow traffic approved

From Staff ReportsJune 8, 2006

— Residents along Morningside Drive and Spring Valley Road will soon see speed tables, or speed bumps, and a three-way stop intersection.

The Board of Aldermen has approved two speed tables on Morningside Drive and two on Spring Valley Road. A three-way stop intersection will also be created at the intersection of the two streets.

Residents along these two roads and along Blueridge Road had expressed concerns about speeding in their neighborhoods and submitted petitions.

But those living along Blueridge Road do not support speed bumps at this time, so the town will continue meeting with them to come up with a different solution. And staff will monitor the speed of traffic along Blueridge after the traffic-calming devices have been installed along Spring Valley and Morningside.

Each speed table costs about $2,100.
