Garner approves 1.5-cent tax increase

From Staff ReportsJune 23, 2006

— This week the Garner Board of Aldermen approved a 1.5-cent tax increase as part of the town's 2006-07 budget. The increase amounts to about $25 more each year on a $200,000 home.

The initial budget proposal had called for a 4-cent increase. Town Manager Mary Lou Todd said those revenue projections turned out to be about a penny more than they should have been.

The board made up the other 1.5-cent shortfall by eliminating the purchase of two police cars and making minor cuts to other department budgets. The $20 million budget is about $2 million more than the town's current budget.
