Driver crashes on NCSU campus

From Staff ReportsJune 29, 2006

— Police chased a suspected drunken driver Wednesday night until the car, which had a 5-year-old unrestrained in the back seat, crashed on N.C. State University's campus.

Cindy Westbrook Paschall, 46, of Raleigh, was initially followed by an officer who noticed her driving erratically, said Lt. Norman Grodi of the Raleigh Police Department.

Officers stopped the chase at one point for safety reasons, but picked it up again when the driver almost hit a pedestrian who was crossing Avent Ferry Road. Officers followed her onto N.C. State's main campus where the vehicle hit a parked car and jumped a curb before becoming inoperable.

Paschall is charged with numerous traffic offenses, felony hit and run, misdemeanor hit and run, and driving while impaired.

Also arrested was James Allen Macroglou, 29, of Raleigh, a passenger and uncle of the child. He is facing child endangerment charges.

At press time, the child was being examined at WakeMed Pediatrics until a parent could be contacted.
