A 20-year-old student from Chapel Hill died Tuesday when his SUV crossed a center line and slammed head-on into an ice cream truck, The Asheville Citizen-Times reported.
Miles Wipper, a 2004 graduate of Chapel Hill High School, had loaded his red Isuzu Trooper with personal belongings and was in the process of moving when the accident occurred at 7:23 a.m., the Citizen-Times reported.
Police don't know why the UNC-Asheville student crossed onto the left side of Merrimon Avenue.
"We don't know if fog was a contributing factor," Asheville police officer Robin Lyles said, "but the driver of the truck said he had good visibility."
The Blue Bell Ice Cream truck's driver, 24-year-old Nathaniel Shoup of Hickory, was unhurt.
