From Staff ReportsAugust 13, 2006

— A teenager slated to face trial for murder in just one month was arrested Saturday on charges he and an accomplice fired a shotgun into an occupied apartment.

Breon Jerrard Beatty, 17, and Chasaray Lamont Newman, 22, were charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property, an apartment on Seven Oaks Road, according to arrest warrants. The two also were charged with injury to personal property, warrants said.

Newman, of 1708 Robinhood Road, was being held at the Durham County jail Saturday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Beatty, of 2526 N. Roxboro St., also was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. Beatty was charged with murder in the January 2005 shooting death of Antonio Demetrius Dent, 17.

Beatty is scheduled to appear in Durham Superior Court on second-degree murder charges Sept. 11, court records show.
