Pedestrian, 82, hit in Chapel Hill

— An 82-year-old woman was struck by a car Thursday afternoon in downtown Chapel Hill as she tried to cross North Columbia Street between Franklin and Rosemary streets.

Helen T. Bryan of 105 Fidelity St., Apt. B8, in Carrboro was hit by a vehicle driven by Lilian Renee Furst, 75, of 106 Arbitus Place in Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill police spokeswoman Jane Cousins said.

Bryan was taken to UNC Hospitals. Her condition was not available Thursday night.

Bryan was not crossing in a crosswalk, and no decision has been made about charges related to the accident, Cousins said.
