2 lawyers consent to State Bar orders

From Staff ReportsOctober 5, 2006

— Two prominent Durham lawyers consented to disciplinary orders from the State Bar stemming from a failure to pay state income taxes.

Thomas F. Loflin III and his wife and Ann F. Loflin consented to the order for failing to file and pay state income taxes from 1998 through 2003, according to the State Bar, the agency that regulates lawyers.

The Loflins pleaded guilty last year in Wake County to misdemeanor failure to file or pay income tax.

Ann Loflin's license was suspended for two years, but the suspension was delayed for two years. She is already serving a previous suspension issued in 2004 for neglecting clients' appeals.

Thomas Loflin's license was suspended for three years but delayed for three years. He will be on active suspension during the month of December.
