2,000-plus speak up about schools plan

From Staff ReportsJanuary 3, 2007

— Wake County school administrators received more than 2,000 comments to their draft student reassignment plan before the end of the public comment period on Tuesday.

Since the proposal was released Dec. 8, the district received 1,364 online comments. Administrators also received 668 e-mail messages and 43 telephone calls.

Administrators say they'll review the comments before presenting a revised plan to the school board Tuesday. The draft plan called for moving 10,788 students to different schools this fall to help fill new schools, relieve crowding at existing schools and promote socioeconomic diversity.

News & Observer is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
