Apex OKs holiday from permit fees

From Staff ReportsJanuary 17, 2007

— You may want to wait to start that home renovation project.

The Apex Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday to waive permit fees for people remodeling their home, building a deck or adding a pool between April 2 and June 29.

The move will allow homeowners to shave up to several hundred dollars off the cost of big home projects. The town government estimates it will lose about $21,000 in revenue.

Council member Bryan Gossage said that if other tax-free holidays are any indicator, his proposal might spur a mini-boom in Apex in home remodeling.

"Sometimes it's that little bump," he said, "that pushes them over the edge."
