DURHAM — Durham Riverside grabbed an early lead and never lost control in its 85-69 N.C. High School Athletic Association boys basketball second-round playoff victory over Southeast Raleigh on Wednesday night.
Riverside (22-5) will be at home against Middle Creek, a winner over Broughton, in Friday night's sectional final.
Weslye Saunders led Riverside with 20 points, and teammates Carlos Sanford and Sidney Evans added 18 points each. Justin Burton scored 15.
"Riverside was just too talented and too balanced for us tonight," Southeast coach John Baker III said. "We played pretty well in spots, but Riverside has too many weapons."
Baker said he could look back on the 15-14 season with great pride.
"We're talking about going 0-9 to coming back to win the league tournament and win a playoff game," Baker said. "We're very proud but also know that Riverside has a great team. It deserved to win."
