Hillsborough gets 'Cool City' label

March 14, 2007

— Hillsborough became the eighth municipality in North Carolina to receive the Sierra Club's designation of "Cool City" on Monday night.

Cool Cities agree to sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, pledging to try to meet or beat the Kyoto Protocol targets for greenhouse gas emissions and to encourage their state and federal government representatives to set the same goals.

Chapel Hill and Carrboro are already Cool Cities, as is Durham.
