State holds hearing on EQ permit

April 12, 2007

— Town residents will get a chance tonight to weigh in on state regulators' plans to boot out EQ Industrial Services.

The Division of Environment and Natural Resources is holding a public hearing on its plan to terminate EQ's permit to operate a hazardous waste storehouse in Apex. It will begin at 7 p.m. in the Apex Town Hall.

EQ's waste warehouse exploded in October, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes.

State regulators moved to revoke EQ's permit to operate in Apex after former company employees told them that EQ did not report potentially dangerous accidents, including small fires and chemical spills.
