Birds, rabbits exempt from animal ban

From Staff ReportsMay 16, 2007

— The Town Council voted Tuesday to let people keep birds and rabbits in town, despite the new barnyard animal ban.

Council members said they never intended for the animal ordinance to boot out pets.

Mostly, they enacted the law to make sure nobody else could keep sheep, pigs or goats in town. Police recently found nearly 80 sheep in and around a home near downtown.
