Decomposed body belonged to criminal

— Police released the name Wednesday of a man whose body was found badly decomposed behind an unoccupied home May 11.

How Stacy Levon Jones, 30, died and how he ended up in a shed at 823 S. Plum St. is still under investigation. Jones, who was homeless, had an extensive criminal history spanning five counties. His list of convictions includes drug possession, assault and communicating threats.

Jones' body is still being examined by the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill.
