Q: What are the penalties for violating the rules on alternate-day lawn watering in Raleigh and six other towns that get their water from the city's system?
A: A written notice will be issued for a first violation that has been observed by staff of the Raleigh public utilities department. A second violation will mean a $50 fine, and a third violation will result in a $200 civil penalty. A fourth violation will bring interruption of the customer's water service. Reinstatement of service will be at the discretion of the director of the public utilities department.
The same enforcement rules and penalties apply to all customers of the Raleigh water system, including residents of Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon.
