Man charged with first-degree rape

From Staff ReportsAugust 22, 2007

— Police have charged a man with first-degree rape and assault on a female.

Johnny Lamont Hicks, 35, whose address police said they did not know, was arrested Saturday by Durham Police at Johnny Carraba's restaurant where he worked, according to Chapel Hill police. His bail was set at $150,000.

Police think Hicks raped a girl he knew around the end of March. The accuser didn't report the incident to police until May, and after an investigation, the arrest warrant was taken out July 23, said Chapel Hill Investigator Joe DiCostanzo. DiCostanzo would not discuss how Hicks might have known the girl or where the alleged incident happened.
