Fire damages used car dealership

From Staff ReportsSeptember 10, 2007

A fire Sunday morning damaged several cars and the office of a Durham used car dealership, according to the Durham Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Scott Roberts said that about 6:15 a.m., a passer-by called 911 to report that Family Auto Center at 3323 Holloway St. was on fire.

When they got there, firefighters found a front office space on fire. The fire spread to several cars parked outside, Roberts said. Radiant heat damaged other cars as well, he said.

It took firefighters about 50 minutes to get the fire under control. Investigators are trying to learn how the fire started, but it did not seem suspicious, Roberts said.

No one was injured, he said.
