Charges dismissed in carjacking case

From Staff ReportsOctober 2, 2007

— A murder charge was dropped recently against the second of two suspects charged in a 2004 carjacking and fatal shooting of Juante Lamar Gooch.

The state dismissed charges against Paul Lemale Scott, 29, who is incarcerated in the Scotland Correctional Institute for a an earlier conviction as a habitual felon.

In February 2006, the state also dropped charges against Lamario Contwana Gibson.

Defense lawyers in the case said flawed police-lineup procedures had been used in both cases, similar to those that received attention in the Duke lacrosse case.
