Police seeking teen charged in break-ins

From Staff ReportsOctober 23, 2007

— Durham Police are looking for 17-year-old break-in suspect Vincent Ramone Sowell Jr.

Sowell is charged in an Oct. 8 break-in on Denver Avenue, off Dearborn Drive in northern Durham, in which jewelry was taken, and an Oct. 9 break-in on Duke Homestead Road, where cash was taken.

Sowell is described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 165 pounds, with a tattoo on his upper right arm. He frequents the area of Oxford Manor apartments and Bragtown. That is the same area in which several recent break-ins have occurred, as well as the Sept. 27 slaying of 89-year-old Charles Forest Davis.

Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said that Sowell has been linked only with the Duke Homestead Road and Denver Avenue break-ins but that investigators "are certainly looking at all the break-ins in that area," and they made two arrests last week.

Anyone with information about Sowell is asked to call Investigator A.B. Laeng at 560-4582, ext. 235, or Durham CrimeStoppers at 683-1200.
