Woman kills self in leap from UNC deck

From Staff ReportsNovember 13, 2007

— A woman jumped to her death from a parking deck at UNC-Chapel Hill on Sunday night, campus police said.

A security guard spotted the woman about 9 p.m. on the top level of the Cardinal parking deck across from the UNC Hospitals main entrance, said Randy Young, spokesman for the UNC-CH Department of Public Safety.

The guard notified police, but the woman jumped "almost immediately upon their arrival," Young said. She was reported to have died about 3 a.m. Monday.

Police had not released her name as of Monday night, pending notification of her family. She was 47, with a last known address in Carrboro, Young said.

The woman had no known affiliation with UNC or the hospital.
