Officer wrecks patrol car, is injured

From Staff ReportsNovember 29, 2007

— A police officer wrecked his patrol car Tuesday night but was not seriously injured.

Officer J.R. LeConey was responding to a robbery call at a McDonald's downtown. He was traveling west on Holloway Street with his emergency lights and sirens on when he swerved to avoid a car turning left onto Elm Street, police said. LeConey lost control of his vehicle, ran off the left side of the road and struck a power pole. The vehicle, a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, was destroyed, but LeConey was treated and released from Durham Regional Hospital.
