Center's new name honors Iraq casualty

From Staff ReportsDecember 5, 2007

— The City Council renamed the Southgate Community Center on Tuesday in honor of Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson, a soldier from the neighborhood who was killed in Iraq in July.

Johnson's family in Southeast Raleigh had sought the renaming because the soldier and former Marine spent so much time there as a counselor and athlete.
