DURHAM — Police arrested a Durham man Tuesday in a July homicide.
Lamont Charles Johnson, 27, of Gurley Street in Durham is charged with murder in the shooting death of Darraies McClain, according to a police statement.
Police say McClain, 26, and his girlfriend were driving north on Cheek Road on the evening of July 1 when they stopped at a red light. A sport utility vehicle pulled up next to them. Police say someone in the back seat of the SUV leaned out a window and fired numerous shots into the car McClain was in.
McClain was struck at least once. His girlfriend drove him to Durham Regional Hospital, where he died the next day.
Investigators say McClain and Johnson knew each other, according to the statement. They offered no more details on a possible motive for the crime.
