Pregnant woman charged in fight

December 16, 2007

— A pregnant Cary woman was charged with domestic violence after slapping and scratching her husband, who she claims put her out of the car in which they were riding on Interstate 40.

Lijing Jia, who is eight weeks pregnant, told a Wake County magistrate she was riding with her husband when he went into a fit of road rage. When 33-year-old Jia tried to calm him down he became even more upset and put her out of the car near the State Farmers Market, she said.

Jia, of 4012 Remington Oaks Circle, told the magistrate she walked two miles before a stranger picked her up on Interstate 40, court records show.

When Jia arrived home Saturday at 1:20 p.m., police say she smacked her husband, Xiaoyang Zhang, in the face and neck and scratched him with her fingernails.

Police charged Jia with domestic violence and a magistrate ordered her to spend the next 48 hours in the custody of the Wake County jail, according to a warrant filed Saturday at the Wake County Magistrate's Office.

Zhang, her husband, could not be reached for comment.
