AP exams up for high school students

— For the third straight year, the number of Durham high school students taking at least one college-level Advanced Placement exam has increased.

There was a 1.5 percent increase in the number of students who took at least one AP exam during 2006-07, compared with the previous school year.

The total number of students participating in AP exams was 1,183, up 69 percent over 10 years ago, according to a news release.

Minority participation also increased, with nearly 9 percent more black students and 2 percent more Hispanic students taking AP tests,
