Store clerk shot; gunman sought

— A convenience store clerk remained hospitalized in serious condition Saturday as police sought a suspect in the clerk's shooting.

A gunman stole cash from the register at the Quality Food Mart, then shot clerk Samir Patel, 32, and fled on foot. Patel managed to call 911 and was assisted by customers.

He was taken to WakeMed Raleigh Campus.

Police are asking the public's help in solving the crime, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday at 2206 S. Main St.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wake Forest police at 554-9111. Callers may remain anonymous.
