From Staff ReportsMarch 18, 2008

— A 78-year-old man was charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution after police said he tried to pick up a young girl Sunday.

Thomas George Faulkner, of 2516 State St., is accused of approaching about 9:40 a.m. Sunday a girl who was waiting for a church bus near the intersection of Geer and North Roxboro streets, said Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael. The girl reported that a man in a white Pontiac Grand Am tried to get her into his car. Police stopped a Grand Am a few minutes afterward in the 1600 block of North Roxboro Street and later charged Faulkner. He was being held at the Durham County jail Monday with his bail set at $45,000.
