Apex advanced to Saturday's N.C. High School Lacrosse Association championship game with a semifinal victory on Wednesday night.

Apex, the No. 2 seed, defeated Greensboro Page 9-3 as Will Doyle scored three goals.

Joe Nugent had two goals and Thomas Gregory had one goal and three assists.

Apex led 5-1 at the half.

Apex will play either Chapel Hill or East Chapel Hill in the championship game at 7 p.m. at Duke's Koskinen Stadium.

GIBBONS REACHES FINAL: Cardinal Gibbons secured a berth in the NCHSLA 2-A/3-A championship game with a 9-8 overtime victory over Southeast Guilford.

Joe Panzl scored with seven seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Chris Nelson threw in the winner.

The Crusaders will play either top-seeded Charlotte Catholic or Western Guilford in the title game at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

NORTHWOOD WINS: Pittsboro Northwood scored all of its goals in the second half to top Durham Arts 4-1 in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2-A girls soccer playoffs.

Anna Elkins scored a pair of goals, and Annie Cleaver and Caroline Sikes added one each.

Northwood and Durham Arts are both members of the Mid-State 1-A/2-A Conference.

Northwood was the No. 3 seed from the league. Durham Arts made the tournament as a wild card selection.

Raleigh Charter was the top 1-A seed from the league, and Cardinal Gibbons was the conference's No. 1 seed in 2-A.

GIBBONS KICKERS WIN: Cardinal Gibbons pounded Eastern Guilford 9-0 in the third round of the NCHSAA 2-A girls soccer playoffs.

Gibbons (19-1-2) will play Northwood in the state quarterfinals.

The Crusaders got three goals from Lauren McAnallen and two goals and two assists from Lindsey Byrd.

Kaitlin Murphy had two goals and one assists.

"We played better than we did the other night," said Gibbons coach Michelle Miller, referring to a 10-0 win over Reidsville in the second round. "We did OK."

Tara Rajani recorded the shutout in goal.

CHARTER WINS IN OT: Raleigh Charter's Camille Morgan scored in overtime to provide a 1-0 NCHSAA 1-A girls soccer victory over Dixon.

Charter will play Hampstead Topsail, a 5-4 overtime winner over Manteo, in the state semifinals.

GIFT WRAPS UP WIN: North Raleigh Christian's Rebecca Gift struck out 14 batters in a 9-0 victory over Forsyth Country Day.

The victory sends North Raleigh against Ravenscroft in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3-A semifinals at 11 a.m. Friday.

Gift also had two hits, including a triple.

ECH ELIMINATED: Wilmington Laney eliminated East Chapel Hill from the NCHSAA 4-A softball playoffs with a 6-0 victory.
