Executive director leaving downtown group

— Liz Parham is resigning as executive director of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership to take a job with the state Department of Commerce.

Parham, who became the partnership's first director in July 2005, will become director of the Office of Urban Development for the Division of Community Assistance at the Commerce Department.

"The role of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership is to manage and to lead downtown development for Chapel Hill," George Draper, chairman of the partnership, said in a statement. "The board of directors will be meeting this week to develop a plan to find a replacement for Ms. Parham."

Parham's resignation is effective July 18.
