From Staff ReportsAugust 20, 2008

— The city of Raleigh's new Blount Street parking deck near City Market will open today.

The Blount Street deck will be open for pay parking from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Though attendants will be on duty until 10 p.m. on weekdays, there will be no charge for time spent in the deck after 7 p.m. during the week or all day Saturday and Sunday, except during special events.

The new parking deck has 1,232 spaces. Of those, 704 spaces are dedicated for public parking, with 472 for monthly parking and the remaining 232 spaces for hourly/daily parking. The remaining 528 spaces will be reserved for private parking.

The Blount Street deck, between Martin and Davie streets, has two entrances, one from Blount Street and the other from Wilmington Street. The deck will support the nearby 33-story RBC Plaza building, which includes the new headquarters for RBC Centura bank.
