Man's phone claim rings false at RDU

From Staff ReportsSeptember 2, 2008

— Airport police say a man tried to falsely claim two mobile phones and a BlackBerry from airline agents last weekend, saying he'd lost them.

And when that didn't work, authorities said, he tried again.

"He changed tactics and claimed that he was collecting abandoned cellular telephones for a charity based out of the Dominican Republic," wrote Detective R.M. Tyndall of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport police.

David Michael Campbell, 49, is being held in the Wake County jail in lieu of $3,000 bail.
