Shooting arrest nets Durham teen

From Staff ReportsSeptember 27, 2008

Last week police arrested the last of five teenagers originally accused of shooting a man in Hillsborough's Fairview neighborhood in May.

Shaheem Tyron Williams, 18, of Durham, turned himself in to Hillsborough police Thursday.

Charges have been dropped against two of the original five. The pair testified against the others at a probable cause hearing in June. Before that hearing, District Court Judge Alonzo Coleman asked the media not to print the names of the witnesses to protect their safety and that of their families.

On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Carl Fox rejected Assistant District Attorney Byron Beasley's request to raise Williams' bond from $100,000 to $250,000 because he had just assigned attorney Russ Hollers to defend Williams.

Williams' bond could be re-evaluated next week.
