Top seed Tarboro pulls away

TARBORO - Franklinton High ended a winning season on Friday night with a road loss at top-seeded Tarboro in the second round of the Class 2-A state playoffs.

The host Vikings (12-1) put together a strong ground game and stifled the Red Rams by a 38-6 margin.

The Vikings put the first points on the scoreboard with 5:45 to go in the first quarter off a seven-yard burst from running back Brandon Dozier.

With 8:39 to go in the second quarter, Tarboro quarterback Jeremy Bellamy rushed into the end zone on a 28-yard scoring run.

The extra point made the score 14-0.

With just more than two minutes to go before the half, Tarboro tacked on another score -- a 4-yard run by Jamal Farmer.

The score was 21-0 at the half.

Tarboro will host Goldsboro next Friday in the third round of the playoffs.

The Red Rams ended the season at 7-6 after making the playoffs for the first time in five years.
