Untreated waste spills into Wake creek

From Staff ReportsNovember 26, 2008

— The town announced Tuesday that untreated waste spilled into a tributary of Crabtree Creek over the weekend.

Gravel and debris blocked a portion of the town's sanitary sewer system resulting in the spill on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. near the 100 block of Marcom Drive in Morrisville, according to the town.

About 3,500 gallons of untreated waste escaped from a manhole and went into the tributary.

Cary workers cleaned it up by building a dam, flushing the creek with dechlorinated water, and pumping the flushing water back to the collection system, the town said. No fish kill has been observed, the town said.
