Farmers market to open in Clayton

From Staff ReportsJanuary 22, 2009

— The town and the organizers of a farmers market have made final arrangements to locate the market on the new Town Square downtown starting in April.

Town Manager Steve Biggs said rules and other details have all been worked out between the town and the market's steering committee, clearing the way for the market to open April 4.

According to the town, organizers expect 10 to 15 vendors selling a variety of locally grown produce and other farm products on Saturday mornings through October.

Organizers will pay the town a dollar for the use of Town Square this year. Next year, Biggs said, the market is expected to move to the corner of Lombard and Main streets, where the town plans to build a parking lot and public meeting space.
