No death penalty sought in slaying

— Prosecutors do not plan to seek the death penalty against Randall Allen Standifer, the 51-year-old Rougemont man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend on Christmas Day in 2007.

Standifer is charged with killing Jeffrey Lee Walton with a 20-gauge shotgun.

On Monday, Standifer pleaded not guilty in Orange County Superior Court to the murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, felony breaking and entering and assault on a female charges stemming from the incident.

Trial is set for Sept. 14.
