Man charged with beating woman

— A Raleigh man faces charges after he is alleged to have kidnapped a woman and beaten her with a metal rod early Sunday morning.

George Sidney Mitchell, 47, of Tuckland Drive, is charged with second-degree kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury. He is also charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Wake Med Raleigh campus.

Mitchell was being held in the Wake County jail on Sunday. He already faced a court date later this month on assault and battery charges dating from September, according to court records.
