— Wendy Stywalt scored 17 of Johnson C. Smith's final 19 points, rallying the Golden Bulls past Bowie State 49-36 for the CIAA women's basketball tournament title.

Stywalt finished with 30 points in the first of two CIAA finals on Saturday at Time Warner Cable Arena, helping the Golden Bulls (20-10) dominate the final 20 minutes after trailing 26-24 at halftime.

"I told everybody in that locker room, 'I'm not leaving until I get a ring,' " Stywalt said.

Stywalt played for Vance High and then transferred from UNC Charlotte to J.C. Smith for this season. Quite a pickup.

Stywalt created so much offense off the dribble that the rest of the team could focus on defense.

The Golden Bulls held Bowie State (19-11) to 4-of-31 shooting and no free throws in the second half.
