GAFFTOPSAIL CATFISH (BAGRE MARINUS)

Distinguished by its long whiskers and streamers from its dorsal and its pectoral fins, the Gafftopsail catfish is not a bad sport fish on lighter tackle, and it's good on the table, much like its freshwater cousins. The world-record fish weighed 10 pounds and was caught near Boca Raton, Fla., in 2007. There is no state-record category for North Carolina.
