DURHAM — Investigators on Monday announced the arrest of a man charged in one of two weekend homicides.
Derrick Eugene Williams, 24, of Linwood Avenue, was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Donald Ray Scott, 52.
Police think Scott was in a car when he was shot early Saturday morning. Investigators said the driver of the vehicle Scott was in flagged down an officer on Fayetteville Street over the Durham Freeway. Scott was shot after an argument, investigators said, adding that the shooting does not appear to be random.
Williams has convictions for larceny, possession of stolen property, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, trespassing and assault on a female.
He is on probation for driving with a revoked license and has an April 16 court date in Raleigh for multiple driving infractions.
Meanwhile, detectives are still trying to contact the next of kin of a man shot and killed on the 600 block of Troy Street early Sunday morning.
Anyone with information about Sunday's homicide is asked to contact Investigator C. Robinson at 919-560-4440, ext. 264 or CrimeStoppers, which pays cash for anonymous tips leading to an arrest in felony cases, at 919-683-1200.
The two homicides were the city's fourth and fifth of the year. There have been a total of six homicides in the county this year.
