Anoop Desai hits No. 7 on 'American Idol'

Staff WriterApril 9, 2009

At Tuesday night's performance show, the "American Idol" judges praised Chapel Hill contestant Anoop Desai's rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" as a vast improvement over the previous week.

But it didn't play much better with America's voters, because he once again found himself in the bottom-two -- and once again survived, barely.

Host Ryan Seacrest said that there were 34 million votes cast, and only 30,000 separated Desai and Scott McIntyre. McIntyre came up short, so Desai moves into the top-seven.
