Police ID homicide victim in Rolesville

— Rolesville police say a man found dead in a wooded area Tuesday was a Smithfield resident who had lived in the United States for five years.

The body of Ismael Merales-Castro, 30, was found in the undeveloped Drayton Reserve subdivision off Forestville Road, police said. Merales-Castro was originally from Oaxaco, Mexico. Members of his family who live in the Raleigh and Smithfield areas reported him missing on Wednesday.

Police have said that Merales-Castro was a homicide victim, but they have not released details about how he was killed.

Police are looking for Merales-Castro's 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The vehicle is dark grey or charcoal and the state license plate is XXN-8404.
