The driver of a dump truck that overturned Monday afternoon onto a Honda Civic on Davis Drive in Raleigh has been charged with reckless driving.
The Honda's driver, Kara Walden Benton, 25, of Holly Springs was in good condition today at WakeMed in Raleigh. A passenger in the car, Chad Michael Benton, 26, also of Holly Springs, was treated at WakeMed and discharged.
The dump truck, driven by Edmund Theodore Jackson, 52, of New Haven, Conn., was loaded with gravel, and was traveling on Davis Drive near Farm Pond Road about 4:08 p.m. when it went off the right shoulder, said Capt. Everett Clendenin, spokesman for the state Highway Patrol.
The driver tried to regain control, but the truck crossed left of the center line as the Honda approached from the opposite direction. Benton tried to avoid the truck by moving to the shoulder, but the truck overturned on the car.
Benton remained trapped in the Honda for more than an hour and a half before rescue workers were able to remove her and take her to WakeMed.
