Robber wears flowery get-up in bank holdup

From staff reportsApril 25, 2009

— Police said a man wearing a flowered curtain or sheet around his head robbed the Cardinal State Bank at 115 E. Carver St. early Friday afternoon.

The man entered the bank around 12:35 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money. The use of a weapon was implied, but no weapon was seen, police said.

The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of money, which he placed in a brown shoulder bag. He was last seen running toward the woods near the State Employees Credit Union.

The suspect was described as black, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing black pants, reading glasses and black shoes and was described as having a dark complexion. The flowered curtain or sheet wrapped around his head and upper body had a gold, green and burgundy paisley or flower print. The robber used a safety pin to fasten the curtain over the lower part of his face.
