Score a coop

Raleigh's annual Tour d'Coop is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16. This is your chance to see firsthand how some people have become urban chicken farmers.

Maps and tickets are available only on the day of the tour at these Raleigh locations: Ornamentea, 509 N. West St.; CupAJoe, 2109-142 Avent Ferry Road; Whole Foods Market, 3540 Wade Ave.; and Seaboard ACE Hardware, 802 Semart Drive.

Admission is a nonperishable food item or cash donation for Urban Ministries of Wake County. Last year's event raised more than $3,000 and collected 1,600 pounds of food.

Enjoy a Best Dish

Raleigh's 18 Seaboard is celebrating being a finalist in the annual Best Dish contest, which encourages chefs to create dishes using North Carolina ingredients. The restaurant will be offering a wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday featuring the dishes entered in the contest. Dinner costs $42. Call 861-4318 for a reservation.

Eat dessert first

Dessert First, a women's fundraiser benefiting The V Foundation, will be 6 p.m. Friday at the new Marriot City Center in downtown Raleigh.

The event includes dessert, dinner and a silent auction offering jewelry, a night on the town, even a Dooney & Burke bag.

Tickets start at $125. For more information, go to www.eatdessertfirst.info
