Wake school system cancels spring job fair for teachers

FROM STAFF REPORTSApril 28, 2009

— Wake County school officials said Monday that they're canceling the district's Spring Job Fair for new teachers because of the state of the economy.

School officials said they'll continue to seek applicants from people who want to teach in Wake. But they say they can't hold the job fair while they are unsure about how much money they'll receive from the state and county, which both are facing large budget shortfalls.

Because of an expected state budget shortfall of $3 billion, Superintendent Del Burns has told principals to fill only 95 percent of staff positions for the coming school year.
