N.C. State to welcome newcomers

The N.C. State University Alumni Association will hold a reception for incoming students, their families and friends at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The Wake County Senior Send-Off will be held in the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center, 2450 Alumni Drive, on NCSU's Centennial Campus.

The event is a chance for new students from the area to meet other students and alumni, who are encouraged to attend. Admission is $5 for incoming freshmen, $15 for family and friends and $10 for children under 10. To register, go to www.alumni.ncsu.edu/events.

Johnston college plans job fair

Johnston Community College in Smithfield will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium lobby.

Local companies and organizations will be recruiting in the fields of nursing, law enforcement, manufacturing, food service, child nutrition, office support and teaching assistants, among others. There will be opportunities also to meet with human resource professionals for assistance with résumés, interviews and career choices, as well as workshops on topics such as surviving a layoff and job-searching strategies for people with a criminal record.
