The here and now

May 17, 2009

As a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, I say "bravo" to Chuck Small for his May 9 Point of View piece "Legislating as if everyone is precious" and "Shame on you" to Bishop Michael Burbidge. The bishop's conclusion that protecting children from bullying will promote same-sex marriage is not only tortured logic but also represents a pastoral failure.

It appears that Burbidge is paying more attention to what is deemed politically correct at the Vatican Curia than to his duties, as the pastor of the Diocese of Raleigh, to act decisively on behalf of children living in this diocese who are being bullied here and now.
