S&K shuttering all 105 stores

May 22, 2009

— S&K Menswear will close all 105 stores in 26 states, including five in the Triangle, as the economic downturn claims its latest retail victim.

The chain, founded in 1967, has started liquidation sales that will continue "until all merchandise is sold." The Richmond, Va. company filed for bankruptcy protection in February.

"In spite of our best efforts, the current economic climate left us with no choice but to close down the business," said Jonathan Tibus, chief restructuring officer at S&K Menswear, in a prepared statement.

In December, S&K closed stores at Sutton Square, Raleigh, and Garner Towne Square. Its other Triangle stores are at Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield, Triangle Town Center in North Raleigh, Crossroads Plaza in Cary, Northgate Mall in Durham and near the Streets of Southpoint in Durham.
